CDI BBR

After fitting the BBR CDI (5 minutes tops) the difference in performance is noticable from stock. The bike starts better, accelerates much better and feels overall faster.

It also seems tio sound more aggressive as well.

I haven´t been able to test the crf 230 f off road as my knees are still a long way from being able to handle trail riding but the bike is definately better.

I am going to order a new air filter and the front suspension upgrades next week as I really don´t like the front end dive under breaking. I already have the bigger carb jets (145 main and 45 pilot).

Once the stuff arrives I will take the bike for its first service.

I am still debating whether a new exhaust is worth the cash or not! I have heard that the stcok exhaust with some modifications is better than an after market one so I may do this for now.

Not much new done

I haven't done anything to the crf for the last month or so as I tore my ACL and dislocated my thumb playing basketball so haven't been able to ride the bike.

Decided not to do anything while I was unable to ride so that I didn't have any more incentive to ride than I did anyway.

The thumb has healed enough for me to ride now and the physio on the knee is going well. I rode the bike to work on friday and it still has the same problems with the front shocks as always!

I got my bbr rev limiter back from my nephew today and have just fitted it. I will test the bike tomorrow when I ride it to work. I did start the bike and it seems to start a lot easier with the bbr rev limiter than the standard Honda rev limiter.

I also fitted the metal tank cap and the metal mulisha protaper pad for the bars. They don't make any difference to the performance of the bike but make it look a bit better.

I am looking now to buy a new air filter, thicker fork oil and bbr valve emulators for the front forks this week to take the bike to the mechanic to put in the honda power up kit in the carb and also upgrade the front forks with the emulators, bbr fork springs that I already have and the thicker fork oil to stop the front fork dive under breaking that it has at the moment.

I am also looking into getting a BRC complete exhaust system as well to give the motor a bit more grunt down low.

When the stuff comes I will put up some photos.

first offroad done

Took the crf for its first offroad test. It is much better than my old crf which I think was a bit bent as it kept going sideways!!!! I only went to my brother in laws fam for an hour or so but its a good test of the bike as it is the place I have ridden the most.

I was able to get up a couple of hills that I used to have problems with before. I definately need to work on the front shocks as i nearly went over the bars when I went down a deep rut going down a hill.

I am going to buy the parts this week to get them fitted as soon as I can.

Things to Change.

After riding the bike for a week standard except for the Handlebars I have found the following:

  1. The front suspension really dives when breaking.
  2. The engine takes a long time to warm up.
  3. The bike hits the rev limiter really quickly.
  4. The engine is a bit lacking in power.
I have decide that when I take the bike for its first oil change in a couple of weeks I am going to do the following upgrades to fix the problems:

  1. Swap the fork springs for the bbr springs that I already have. Buy bbr fork emulators and swap the fork oil for Motol 15w fork oil.
  2. Swap the jets in the carb for the bigger jets that I already have.
  3. Swap the standard CDI for the bbr CDI that I already have (will do this tonight).
  4. Along with number 2 I will swap the air filter and open up the exhaust.
Along with the performance mods  I will swap the foot pegs for wider ones as I had wider ones on my old bike and they are much better.

plastics all swapped

I decided not to put a black headlight on the crf after all. I returned the replacement headlight to the shop and swapped it for a black number plate instead.

The seat is also back from having a black cover put on it.

I also found some stickers i bought last year and forgot about.

All finished for today

Today I have done the following changes:

Removed the throtle push cable
Swapped the handle bars for pro taper pastrana fmx bars
Swapped the origional plastics for pro tork black plastics

Next week I have to swap the headlight for the new black and white pro tork unuversal headlight and fit the black seat cover that I bought today.

Couldnt fit the headlight today as I needed to buy some electrical connectors and by the time I realised that I needed them the shops were shut. The coachworks where I need to take the seat to be covered was also shut.

The bike looks a little strange but I will do for now.

I am going to take it for a ride eary tomorrow morning early the when my son wakes up tomorrow around 10 will will go off for a longer ride.

Have to say that the bars improve the feel if the bike loads.

New plastics

bought the new plastics today.

This morning I have installed all of the new black plastics.

Idea behind the blog

After selling my XT225 I bought a conscorcio for a brand new Honda crf230f I found out today that I should recieve the bike this weekend.

I decided to create this blog to record all of the modifications that I do to the bike after I get it.

As I had a crf230f    last year I have some extra bits that I plan to upgrade as I know they make a big difference to the performance of the bike the parts that I already have are:

BBR Fork Springs
ProTaper Pastrana FMX bars
Twin Air Filter
Honda power Up Kit (Not going to use as it is not compatable with brazilian petrol).
Replacement Jets for the carborator 145 and 45
BBR rev box

For the first month or so I don´t plan to change anything on the bike except the Bars so that I can get a firm feel of how the bike is standard. I will change the plastics as soon as possable to keep the origional ones nice and shiny and new for when I sell the bike again but appart from that it will be standard.

After a month or so I plan to swap out the air filter, jets and an exhaust pipe mod as I know they reall improve the performance of the bike.

I will also swap out the front fork springs and swap the fork oil for motol 15 w fork oil. I will also swap the motor oli for motol as well.

After these changes I will see wht else needs doing.

I plan to fill the blog with fotos as much as time to add.
